Heart of Streatley Appeal

We need your help!
Four years ago, Gladedale bought ‘Minter’s Field’, adjacent to the Morrell Rooms and additional land on the south of the High St. with the aim of building a large number of houses in the centre of our village. Now, due to the downturn, we as a community have a chance to buy the land back at much less than they paid. The timeframe we have is very limited so we need your help to raise funds URGENTLY.

Parish Assembly
At the Annual Assembly of the Parish of Streatley on 24th May 2010 this opportunity was presented and discussed at length. The meeting was very well attended and a resolution was passed to support the Council in progressing this opportunity.

Our key objective is to ensure that the Parish Council own the freehold and protect the amenity for the community. To help fund buying the land, a proposal to sell on parcels of the land adjacent to existing properties on the south side, on a leasehold basis, was agreed. The real ‘jewel’ – the land to the north, formerly known as Minter’s Field – could then be preserved for local people as an amenity for future generations.

How we will buy the land
Minter's Meadow

We have to show Gladedale that we have the ability to make a serious offer by June 30, 2010. We want to raise £750,000 to put ourselves in a strong negotiating position. There are a number of options available which were fully discussed at the Parish Assembly and there was unanimous agreement to the following approach:

• Seek donations from local residents and other sources. This is the ‘Heart of Streatley Appeal’
• Sell on parcels of the land adjacent to existing properties on the south side on a leasehold basis (with covenants preventing any development). The Parish Council will retain the freehold.
• If required, Streatley Parish Council to contribute £100,000 by taking out a loan.

Heart of Streatley Appeal
Raising substantial donations from local residents and other sources is one of our main targets over the coming weeks. It sounds daunting but we believe through the strength of will and generosity of the people of Streatley and Goring it can be done. It is appreciated that peoples’ ability to contribute will vary greatly, but every donation is welcome and needed!

The real benefit is that we will keep the views of Streatley from both sides of the river protected for future generations.

Raising grants from external sources such as the Lottery Fund and other grant agencies is obviously an attractive route, however the short timescales prohibit such approaches.

We are asking people to donate money urgently to our appeal.

Your questions answered:
• Donations can be made on the attached form.
• We need to collect donations before 30th June 2010
• If the sale falls through, we will return your entire donation to you.
• We are investigating the situation regarding Gift Aid.
• All money will be held by the Parish Council in a separate account for this purpose only. As with all Parish Council accounts, this is subject to external auditing.
• If you prefer for some reason to make an anonymous donation you can, but we will be unable to return your donation to you if the sale falls through. In these circumstances your money will be used for the benefit of Streatley for another amenity use but not general recurrent Parish Council expenditure.

Further Information or if you wish to make a donation please call one of the Parish Councillors, whose names are below or download a donation form here...
