Open Spaces
We are very fortunate in Streatley to have some beautiful areas for walking and recreation. All footpaths are the responsibility of the footpath officer at West Berks Council – if you encounter any problems with the footpaths (like fallen trees etc) please email them direct. However, as your parish council we are keen to ensure that these areas are kept pristine and open for all to use. A new permissive footpath has been formed (after years of negotiating by SPC) and runs from the end of the National Trust footpath on the Reading Road to Mulberry Lodge. We are currently erecting some fences and steps to ensure the access to this footpath is easy to use for able walkers.
On the footpath that leads up to the Holies from the Reading Road the SPC has recently installed new benches at regular intervals in good viewing spots. This is a steep climb and we hope that these benches make the path usable by many more people as it is one of the best views down through Streatley to the river and over into Goring. Whilst we do not own this piece of land we are always keen to be alerted to any maintenance issues which arise here and are happy for walkers to let us know about them by contacting Nicola Swan.

More information on public rights of way in West Berkshire can be found here...

Under the Countryside and Rights of Way Act 2000, certain areas of downland, heathland and registered common land in West Berkshire were designated as "open access land". As you travel up the Ridgeway at the end of Rectory Road there is some spectacular scenery as you cross the open access land at Warren Farm, Streatley.
