| Alan Law - West Berks Councillor
for Basildon, Streatley, and Aldworth |
| I have lived in Streatley since
1989. I’m married to Mavis and our 3 children (2 boys
(twins) and a girl) are long since married and we are fortunate
to have 5 lovely grandchildren. I’m an Ulsterman, educated
at The Queen’s University of Belfast, I spent my entire
business career in the Computer and Data Communications Industries.
I have travelled widely with my career and lived in France and
the USA. |
I got involved in local issues
in 2004/5 when Gladedale bought the Minter lands and I am a
founding member of SPAG (Streatley Preservation Action Group).
Along with Mavis, I was responsible for leading the development
of Streatley’s Parish Plan, which was adopted by West
Berkshire Council and Streatley Parish Council in 2006. This
gave me an expanding interest in all sorts of local issues and
my contacts with various parts of West Berkshire Council gave
me a taste for local Politics.
I was therefore delighted to accept the nomination of the local
Conservative Party in 2007 for the Basildon ward following the
vacancy caused by Chris Webber’s decision not to stand
again. I was pleased to be elected in May 2007 with a substantial
majority in what was my first foray into electioneering! |
|
As well as strictly local Streatley,
Basildon, and Aldworth issues, I am now getting involved in
many broader West Berkshire issues which affect us all. In 2008
I was delighted to be asked to join the Council’s ruling
Executive and given responsibility for Planning and Housing.
I do however retain a keen interest in all matters concerning
Streatley and I endeavour to help preserve all the important
aspects of working, living and learning in a rural community
as unique and charming as ours.
